The Luck of Barry Lyndon by Thackeray, was published in 1844 and based on the life and exploits of the Anglo-Irish Andrew Robinson Stoney. Stanley Kubrick adapted Thackeray’s novel, making Barry Lyndon. Kubrick used only candles to light his movie in order to achieve that old world feeling.

Many of his scenes are purposefully composed as would a period landscape painting.  Barry Lyndon 1975 British-American period  film produced, written, and directed by Stanley Kubrick based on the 1844 novel The Luck of Barry Lyndon by William Makepeace Thackeray which recounts the exploits of an 18th century Irish adventurer.
